MEET JENNIFER

What are you Worth?

I was listening to the radio, the other morning, and heard that the Grammys offered Tiffany Haddish a seat at the table by hosting the Grammys. The only catch was she was invited to eat for free. I thought to myself, I understand we’re in an economic downturn with the pandemic, but at what point was there no longer a fee for service?

Those that are not familiar with Tiffany Haddish, she is a well-known actress and comedian. A woman that has paid her dues and knows the value she brings.

This got me thinking about my own life and how I’ve been undervalued in more ways than one. Not necessarily by others, but by myself. You see, for years I was content with chilling in the nosebleed section while I witnessed others stand on life’s center stage. I tip toed through life, trying my best not to make too much noise.

So, what is the origin of these self-limiting beliefs? I realized that I was suffering from a debilitating condition that you may also be suffering from: Imposter Syndrome. I had no idea what the hell this was, so I Googled it. Imposter syndrome is a “physiological pattern in which a person doubts their skills, talents or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a “fraud”. Ouch!

Here’s what I’ve learned. People will only invest in what you believe you are worth. Here’s a few examples in believing your worth.

  • Nipsey Hussle sold his CD out the trunk of his car for $100. Jay Z bought 100,000 of them.
  • Serendipity sells a 23k edible gold leaf sundae for $1000 each. They sell about one a month.
  • Barclay Prime sells a $100 cheese steak and sells 1-3 a day.

Many will say these items are “too expensive”. But the real question is: at what point along the way did someone make you believe that you weren’t worthy of the best your creation had to offer you? We are a product of our environment, a victim to false beliefs and a manifestation of our own limitations and distorted perceptions.

Listen babe, you are Worthy. You are worthy of that bag, husband, wife, dream job, the successful business, the 1 million followers and most of all the peace. So, for the New Year let’s stop; discounting our products and services, believing the lies that we aren’t ‘qualified” for that job position or settling for anything less than what we deserve.
