Believing is the Secret

What do you believe is possible for your life? Do you believe that it is possible to have an abundant life that is filled with love, happiness, success, laughter and Chick Fil a’s mini chicken biscuits? Or do you believe that your socioeconomic status, race and gender have sentenced you to a life of struggle and despair?

My life, for the last 33 years, has been pretty good. I grew up middle class in a 2 parent household surrounded by an abundance of love and support. I am blessed. Although, as I look over my life I often wonder if some of the choices I’ve made throughout my life were a result of my belief system or someone else’s. One day, as I was in deep meditation, I focused my attention on the “things” that made up my life: the home I lived in, the car I drove, the job I had and even the relationships I’ve created. And suddenly, I had this realization: Your life is the sum total of your core beliefs. I realized that everything I’ve done or accomplished in my life has been based on what I BELIEVED I could do.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t. You’re right.”- Henry Ford.

In an earlier blog I’ve written entitled ISSA Vibe, I talked about how everything in our life has its own unique vibe. Our place of employment, our circle of friends, the foods we eat and even the words we speak have a vibration. Our belief, in a thing, carries a very strong vibration of expectancy and assurance. It is this vibration that has created the world we live in.  Here are some examples of people throughout history that have shaped our world based off their personal beliefs:

The Wright brothers believed that it was possible to travel far distances, through the air in a flying machine.

Madam CJ Walker believed that good hair care products was essential for the overall health of African American hair. This belief allowed her to become the first African American women self- made millionaire.

And Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream of living in a country where people would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

So, what do you believe about yourself? Or should I say, what do you not believe about yourself? What I’m about to tell you is something that will completely change your life as it has done for mine. Are you ready? You become what you think about. And your belief in those thoughts is what creates your life. I know this may sound like a bunch of hocus pocus or some esoteric nonsense but it’s true! The proof? It can be found in the life that you are living now. Everything in your life are all expressions of what you secretly believe about yourself. Once I came to this realization, I became very careful what I allowed in my thoughts.

Many times in our lives we allow outside forces to dictate what is possible for us. Let me give you an example. For years, I’ve always loved to read and write. I often dreamt of one day becoming an author on the New York Times best seller list and even encouraged others to pursue their gift of writing. You see, I never thought I was a good writer. I was never an A student in English nor did I master the art of grammatical punctuation. But, anxiously awaiting was a burning desire to become a writer. That burning desire eventually manifested into a little blog known as, “29th And Vibe”. I haven’t written a book or made it to Oprah’s book club, YET, but this blog is evidence of what is possible once you believe in yourself.

“Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you”- Steve Jobs

Everything that our world is made up of was once a thought in someone’s mind. Your cell phone, the chair you’re sitting in, the car you drive and even that Popeye’s chicken sandwich you waited an hour for. Everything. Every single belief you harbor on the inside is nothing more than a reflection of your outer world. So, what type of world will you create? Will it be a world filled with fear, lack, unhappiness and struggle? Or will you create a masterpiece that exudes love, abundance, happiness and success? YOU, Babe, are the writer, producer and director of this movie. And you get to decide how it plays out.
